How was the conversation between Netanyahu, Biden and Harris? White House statement

The White House press office issued a brief statement following a telephone conversation between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that took place the night before local time (morning US time).

Vice President Harris also participated in the call and President Biden discussed the current situation with the Israeli Prime Minister, according to the press release. It is noteworthy that the document does not mention Iran or possible Israeli retaliatory actions.

The President of the United States reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Israel’s security and strongly condemned Iran’s missile attack on Israel on October 1. Regarding Lebanon, he highlighted the importance of a diplomatic resolution that allows the safe return of Israeli and Lebanese civilians to their homes on both sides of the Blue Line. He also reaffirmed Israel’s right to protect its citizens from Hezbollah, which has fired thousands of rockets and projectiles at Israel over the past year, noting the need to minimize harm to civilians, especially in densely populated areas of Beirut.

In Gaza, leaders discussed the urgent need to renew diplomatic efforts to free hostages held by Hamas terrorists. Biden also addressed the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the importance of ensuring access to the northern region, including the immediate restoration of the corridor from Jordan. The parties agreed to continue contacts in the coming days, both directly and through national security advisors.

According to media reports, the conversation lasted about 50 minutes. Analysts believe that the main topic of discussion was Israeli plans for possible attacks against Iran and their possible consequences.

Judging by the strong language of Israeli politicians, such attacks are likely planned, and the Biden administration is likely aware that Israel is unlikely to be deterred from taking this step. So the issue comes down to practicalities, especially the level of American involvement in responding to potential consequences.

Previously, Kursor reported that State Department spokesman Matthew Miller explained what scenario the United States would not allow events in Lebanon to unfold.
