Romania plans to create a voluntary military service in order to strengthen his military reserve with a proposal, currently discussed in parliament, which will allow young people aged 18 to 35 to visit a four -month payment program for payment.
After completing the training, volunteers will have the status of reserves and those who want it to be able to become active soldiers.
This measure was declared the Minister of Defense by Ionus Mohtean, and this initiative is aimed at resolving the government issues regarding the aging of the profile of today’s reserves.
The average age of reserves “is about 48-50 years,” the representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Romanian Ministry of Defense Corneliu Pavel told Euronews Romania.
“This statement of the law is aimed at a significant increase in the number of reserves.”
New military obligations in Europe
Mandatory military service, which ensured the constant circulation of an aging tank, was suspended in Romania in 2007 after the country’s entry into the European Union.
According to sources in the Romanian press, the Ministry of Defense excluded any form of restoration of the compulsory recruitment.
Nevertheless, the idea of Romania volunteering corresponds to the plan of complete European equipment and the efforts of many other European countries that consider their classification methods.
The reorganization of the military structure and the increase in the number of armed employees are one of the keys to the current military planning of NATO and the EU countries.
Romanian legislation provides for four -month military training, during which new volunteers pay as active military, and, in the end, they receive a bonus of almost 2500 euros.
Some young people say that they will agree with the plan, while others are more indecisive, but most believe that there should be some form of military training.
A young woman in Bucharest said Romania Euronews that military service can be useful.
“In the event of a war or something else we should know what to do,” he said.
While the young man commented: “Military service is not what should be done:“ I would really want a little additional exercises, a small lesson, but also more seriously, I mean that this does not mean playing with my friends. “
Romania defense expenses in 2025 make up 2.2% of its GDP, however, by 2032, the Black Sea country was committed to reaching 3.5% of the cost of defense and 1.5% of safety investments.
