Huesca City Council to denounce group for alleged sexist attack on mayor

The legal services of the Huesca City Council are located file a complaint against members of the group Alegría Laurentina for allegations “sexist insults” to Lorena Orduna, the city’s mayor, during the San Lorenzo festivities.

The events that the mayor referred to in a press appearance this Wednesday are part of the August 10 celebration in honor of the patron saint of Huesca, San Lorenzo.

He specifically refers to the insults and humiliations he suffered while preparing to interview a media outlet with two members of his team. At present, was reprimanded by many members of the group previously mentioned with cries of “whore’s daughter”, “whore” or “shameless”.

Given the extent of the harassment, it was noted in We must call the Local Police of Huesca to intervene and escort him. This act promoted by Alegría Laurentina is part of the discontent of the members after the Ban on concerts in Jai Alai Hall. Which caused the whistles during the procession on August 10.

This is why the City Council wanted to “publicly denounce what happened on August 10” because “Huesca and no woman deserve it.”I want to walk peacefully in my city as I always have.” he stressed.

Faced with these events, Orduna spoke frankly and defended his position: “I don’t want them to censor me as a woman, as a mother and as a mayor. Therefore, what happened is not freedom of expression, it is a sexist insult against a woman in a formal act in which one cannot defend oneself,” denounced the first mayor.

He confirmed the need for a police presence in the situation and wanted to thank both the media present and the rest of the neighbors who participated in trying to stop the insults and whistles.

So he invited everyone to think: Is this the example we want to give to our children, the education we want for our young people, the image of the city we are going to offer to tourists?“.

Why now?

Orduna also stressed that if the time to make this decision public has come more than a month after what happened, it is because “not to interfere with the smooth running of the festivities” and continue “normally”.

It is now thanks to the images collected from the local police of Huesca and those broadcast throughout the city that he has begun to move legally. These recordings have made it possible to identify all the individuals, “mostly men”, who participated in the scene.

However, he was keen to stress that such sexist behaviour and insults must not be allowed “and must be condemned”. In accordance with this, asked members of the PSOE and Vox to condemn what happened since he claims that they have encouraged these behaviors. He also expressly asked the socialist group to act “responsibly and not to encourage the violence or machismo that it defends so much.”

Possible embezzlement

During his appearance, the mayor showed a series of technical documents that support a possible “embezzlement” for eight years by the PSOE. He thus mentioned a total of 107,000 euros from public funds intended for the work on the private building of the Laurentina club.
