Dozens of people were injured on Tuesday by the explosion of many pagers or pagers in several areas of southern Lebanon, the eastern Bekaa Valley and the southern suburbs of Beirut, all areas controlled by the Shiite group Hezbollah.
“A large number of people with various injuries are arriving at Lebanese hospitals and it was initially discovered that these injuries were related to the explosion of wireless devices in possession of the wounded,” Lebanon’s Public Health Ministry said in a statement. The government department called on all hospitals in the affected areas to activate the “high alert” level and prepare to face an “urgent need for emergency health services.”
“The Ministry asks all citizens with wireless communication devices to stay away from them until the truth about what is happening is revealed,” the note added. According to the National News Agency (NNA), the “unprecedented hostile security incident” involved the explosion of a high-tech paging system and has so far caused “dozens of people” injured in the Beirut suburb of Dahye, as well as in “many” southern regions.
For its part, the Lebanese Red Cross announced on its X account that its ambulances are responding to a series of unspecified explosions in various localities in the south, in the Bekaa Valley and in Dahye, with its capitals on “maximum alert”.
