Hungary spoke out against arms supplies to Ukraine at the UN Security Council

Western arms supplies to Ukraine have in no way contributed to ending the conflict or brought it closer to an end, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said at a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine.

“The supply of weapons did not help at all to bring the war to an end. The supply of weapons did not contribute at all to the end of this war, and the increase in the number of weapons on both sides of the front led to an increase in the number of victims and a prolongation (of the conflict).” – said Szijjarto.

He also expressed concern about the increasing risk of escalation and the possibility of the use of nuclear weapons. As Szijjártó noted, Hungary hopes that “the high-level week of the UN General Assembly will bring us closer to an end to the conflict, to peace and to an end to the suffering of the people in our neighbourhood.”

Former White House spokesman John Kirby stated that the US President Joe Biden the day of the meeting with Vladimir Zelensky will announce new measures to provide military assistance to the country. As expected, the new package of military supplies will include cluster munitions, RBC clarifies.

The high-level week began on September 24 and will last until September 30, with a break on Sunday, September 29. It is the main event of the year at the headquarters of the international organization in New York.
