On Monday, Hungary threatened to in a small hidden way to stop the supply of electricity to Ukraine, since the diplomatic dispute about damage to the druisb pipeline increased.
Last week, a new verbal war broke out after the destruction of a large Drusba oil distribution station in the Breinsk region in Russia with a Ukrainian unmanned aircraft, temporarily interrupting the flow of oil to Hungary and Slovakia.
Ukraine made a second attack on the pipeline on Monday, this time, aimed at an oil station in Nikolskais in the Russian Tampov region.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Shizarto criticized the Ukrainian authorities for conducting strikes in the pipeline, describing them “outrageous and unacceptable” and writing “anyone who attacks our energy security actually attacks our sovereignty”.
The Drusba pipeline delivers oil from Russia to Central Europe through Ukraine and Belarus. Hungary and Slovakia are the only EU member states that continue to receive a large amount of Russian oil from the pipeline, after they provide exceptions from the blocking of Russian oil exports.
Sizarto said that the Russian Minister of Energy told him that experts were working to restore Nikolskoye station, but it is not yet clear when the translation may continue. He also accused Ukraine of trying to draw Hungary into the war.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Simbik reacted to Sizart, reminding him that it was Russia that had begun to war and refuses to put an end to it, accusing Budapest of that he would have little to reduce its energy dependence on Russia.
“Now you can send your complaints – and your threats – to your friends in Moscow,” the Symbik wrote.
Then Shizarto aggravated his criticism in Ukraine, adding: “Remptoms to Ukrainian leaders: Hungary Electricity plays a vital role in the electricity of your country …”.
This is not the first time that Hungary threatened with such a step. Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in an interview with the podcast last week that Ukraine will collapse during the day without providing electricity from Hungary.
“We could organize the collapse of Ukraine in one day, in one day, but this is not in our interest,” Orban said.
“If an accident occurs, some posts fall, break several cables, then Ukraine will stop,” he added.
According to the Hungarian government, in 2024, Ukraine introduced 2.14 electricity terrace from Hungary, or about 40% of the general needs of the country. From the point of view of gas, more than half of Ukrainian imports passes through Hungary, in 2025 in 2025 1.65 billion cubic meters.
The European Commission said on Tuesday that it is in contact with Hungary and Slovakia on this issue.
“We have no clear information about who attacked the relationship, but we emphasize the importance of maintaining energy security. It is important that the suspension does not affect the safety of the proposal, which is always a priority for the European commission, ”the representative added.
