Husband of woman found dead in Villalbilla cellar goes to prison for homicide

The husband of the woman who disappeared in Villalbilla since August 31 is incarcerated for homicide. They found the body of Raquel BL, 54, in a soundproof cell of the chalet where the couple lived, by court order, after refusing a voluntary search on Friday. Although it was she who reported the disappearance after going to Griñón to see the mother.

Civil Guard officers found the victim’s body in his bed, foaming at the mouth and no signs of violence. Nearby were several blister packs of pills and a kind of altar as an offering. The woman had already attempted suicide twice.

When the agents found Raquel, the man was not in the house, but when he saw the Civil Guard, he tried to escape. The husband, a Spanish citizen close to the Hare Krishnas, was arrested last Sunday. The inconsistencies in the story and the analysis of the cell phones that indicate that the woman was at home led to the admission of this man to the Alcalá Meco prison on Wednesday night.

The cause of death is believed to be the ingestion of medication, pending the results of the toxicology analysis of the autopsy. Investigators are trying to determine whether she ingested them alone or whether the person arrested forced her to do so.

At the beginning of this month, the association SOS Desaparecidos and the National Centre for Disappeared Persons raised the alarm about Raquel BL, 54 years old. That day, Raquel had left Villalbilla to visit her mother, who lives in Griñón, in the south of the Community of Madrid, 75 kilometres away, but she had not returned home as planned. At least that is what Raquel’s husband stated in the complaint he filed the following day at the Civil Guard barracks. Apparently, he was never able to see his mother.

It wasn’t in VioGén

For her part, the government delegate in Madrid, Fran Martín Aguirre, assured that there was no evidence that she was registered in the VioGén system, and that there was a “possibility” that the prisoner was involved in the murder, although they are awaiting the decision taken by the judge. If confirmed, it would be the fourth case of death due to gender violence so far this year in the Community of Madrid.
