“I always wanted to be a police officer. I quickly became disgusted with the profession”

The first time I worked as a police officer, I told myself that I wasn’t crazy. I’m 18 years old, I’ve just graduated as a police assistant and I’m taking up my first position in an administrative detention centre (CRA). I spend long hours there waiting, without a concrete mission. I feel useless. My mental health is getting worse. Until I resigned, almost a year after entering the profession.

Everything predisposed me to become a police officer. My parents spent years in the motorized brigade. My mother is still there. In some family photos, I am sitting proudly on the back of a police motorcycle. At what age did my parents first put me on this seat? I don’t remember exactly. 4 years old, maybe 3. I have always loved it, I am a great fan of motorcycles. It is also my parents’ passion. They lived on it and I bathed in it.

My parents’ work is not just that. I grew up knowing that they helped people. For example, when they were called because someone in great distress was trying to end their life, they always saved them. Or when there had been a serious traffic accident, they managed to find the person responsible. Sometimes I saw my father and mother come home from work completely broken. But I thought: “That’s the other side of the coin.” I have always wanted to help people and do good. In my family, it is a character trait that we have.

“Judo, football, sport shooting”

The police is a vocation. I was self-confident from the age of 12. My 3-year internshipmy It takes place inside a police station. In addition to my bachelor’s degree in technological sciences, management and management sector, I do a lot of sport. Three or four times a week. Judo for twelve years, football, sports shooting. Just like motorcycling, shooting has been part of my life for a long time. My mother was a shooting champion in speed sports during internal police competitions. When I turned ten, she authorized me to shoot five rounds from a firearm, during a training course supervised by an instructor. It immediately became a passion that I regularly practiced in high school. I really had all the predispositions to pursue the profession!

I passed the Police Assistant competition the year I turned 18 and completed my senior year. I chose to take this rank, and not Peacekeeper, because I wanted to get my foot in the door and some experience in the field before making a long-term commitment.
