“I am not guilty”

Despite the media coverage of recent days, three weeks after the catastrophic DANA which devastated the province of Valencia, causing more than two hundred deaths, the inhabitants of the affected villages continue to feel abandoned by the administrations.

Some streets full of mud still show the extent of the flooding and 600 garages and cellars remain buried under the mud. “Today, sludge extraction and garage cleaning remain a priority, with particular attention to schools and commercial premises. These efforts are essential to regain normality and reactivate the economy,” the Ministry of Defense explained this Friday in its X profile.

Minister Margarita Robles went to several places to check the work of the army at Ground Zero, where she had a clash with the owners of a flooded garage in Paiporta. Two victims criticized Robles, who was accompanied by members of the Military Emergency Unit (UME), that this organization did not participate in the drainage and cleaning of their parking lots.

“The military are working and I tell you that the one who should give the instructions, which is not us, has said that private garages are subsidiary. “I am not guilty,” said the minister.

Then asked about responsibility, Robles emphasized that “the mayors and the Cecopi – Integrated Operational Coordination Center – declared that they were secondary”. “First the public garages, then the private ones,” he added. “I’m coming because I have 8,000 people working,” she responded after being criticized for her presence. “I am not breaking the law,” he stressed, referring to the fact that he is following the orders of those leading the rescue.

The criticism of Margarita Robles for the harsh tone used towards the victims of the disaster was not long in coming, after the video of the tense face-to-face went viral on social networks. The president of the Provincial Delegation of Valencia, Vicente Mompó, dishonored the head of Defense for his attitude towards the residents of Paiporta, one of the towns hardest hit by the tragedy.

“I don’t know if it’s the hours or the days accumulated, but it’s unbearable. With this attitude, the best would be to stay at home, so as not to send him where any Valencian with a minimum of “trellat” would send him. Holding mayors accountable to citizens is very cowardly,” says Mompó.

“The 8,000 soldiers are not their workers, they are soldiers serving all Spaniards. “Close the door when you leave!” » he said.
