The Minister of Justice, Félix Bolaños, asked the Senate this Tuesday for “respect for the Supreme Court and all the magistrates and judges of this country” before “unjustified” attacks. He did so during his appearance before the Senate Justice Commission, just a few days after having himself attacked the investigator of the Begoña affair, Juan Carlos Peinado, for his decision to transmit to the parties the statement of the president of the government : “White and bottled”, the minister then condemned.
And the investigation opened against the wife of Pedro Sánchez, encouraged by “extreme right associations”, the non-application of the amnesty to embezzlement and the delicate situation of the attorney general of the State played in part of the three and a half hours of presentation of the minister’s accounts in the Upper House, where the separatist senators criticized the decision of the Supreme Court not to apply the law to the crime of embezzlement . “For the first time in the history of Spain, the Supreme Court challenges the Constitutional Court and tells it that if it cancels the embezzlement, it will go to Luxembourg. Is a court that believes itself to be more supreme than a court a rule of law? This has a name in the Penal Code; “First, threats, or even other more serious crimes…” said ERC Senator Joan Queralt.
Junts spokesperson Joan Bagué also expressed her “concern” noting that “what has already been approved, published and sanctioned has not been achieved.” Who protects or supervises the judge?“, we asked.
Both interventions provoked an angry (and somewhat theatrical) reaction from the minister in turn. “We have a solid and complete democracy, with a system of guarantees for citizens who feel that their rights have been violated and we must let the courts work. I respectfully ask you to have consideration for magistrates of the Supreme Court and of all the magistrates and judges of this country.” The pro-independence senators, in turn, intervened in response to dishonor Bolaños for restricting his freedom of expression because “neither the judiciary nor judicial decisions are not immune from criticism.” Joan Bagué, of the Plural Group, reminded the minister that he had also done so when, for example, he criticized Peinado’s admission of the complaint against Begoña Gómez.
For her part, the spokesperson for the Popular Group, María José Pardo, highlighted the contradiction between the minister’s fiery defense of judicial independence and the “white and bottled” with which he tried to discredit the work of Judge Coiffure , which Bolaños did. redone today in a more subtle way focusing on popular accusations, but saying in summary that the investigation opened by the instructor is the result of a deception. “How is it possible that the PP joins forces with far-right associations in a campaign of hoaxes against an honest person? “How long will it take to ask for forgiveness?” asked the minister.
García Ortiz, the “minister 23”
Bolaños also defended the state attorney general, on the eve of a possible accusation for revealing secrets, as he was reminded by the popular spokesperson, who mentioned García Ortiz as “Minister 23”. “The lawyer of Begoña Gómez, convicted twice by the Supreme Court, is about to be indicted… What will you do if Mr. Bolaños is indicted?” asked Pardo, who also mentioned the “colonization” of part of the population. Government of all institutions, including the State Attorney General’s Office.
“Do you really want to talk about a confessed criminal who is the partner of the president of the Community of Madrid? Because for me, denying the existence of a hoax seems completely appropriate,” Bolaños said in reference to Alberto González Amador and the reasoned statement in which a judge asks the Supreme Court to investigate the prosecutor general for revealing secrets.
Precisely in reference to the hoaxes, Bolaños referred to the “Action Plan for Democracy that also exists in Europe”, calling on the popular senator to explain why the European People’s Party wants to fight against them and not the PP of Feijóo. “Why do they want hoaxes and lies in Spain, Ms. Pardo?”
