German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is facing a no-confidence motion, called Russian President Vladimir Putin today, November 15.
The chancellor himself reported on the conversation on his microblog:
“I called President Putin and urged him to end the war against Ukraine and withdraw his troops from there. “Russia must demonstrate its willingness to negotiate with Ukraine with the goal of achieving a just and lasting peace.”
Scholz also told Putin that Germany will continue to support Ukraine “as long as it is necessary,” the German cabinet said in a statement.
