The Villafranca Gardens residence has become the point of reference for the loved ones of its residents. José Ángel Barat, resident of Villafranca and son of a resident, went to the doors of the residence to find out the condition of his mother Pilar, 93 years old.: “My mother was fine, she suffers a little from Alzheimer’s disease, even if she noticed something, she didn’t give it any importance”, says José Ángel. By the time he was able to visit her, there were only three or four elderly people left to move.
According to this relative, it was the mayor herself, Volga Ramírez, who told him what had happened at 7:30 a.m., two hours after the start of the fire in a room of the residence.
“From the first moment he told me he was fine. This is not the same as asking a person to flee because there was a fire.. I came back a little serene in that sense,” says José Ángel relieved.
His mother, Pilar was the only resident of Villafranca de Ebro to be admitted to the center for seven years.. In addition to her, another woman who also lived in the town was admitted to the residence.
