Antonio returned yesterday afternoon from work in Paiporta. Like so many motorists who were not warned of the virulence of the water flowing in the Poyo ravine, they were trapped by the overflowing current. Right at the roundabout accessing the town. “The water was flowing at crazy speed. The water caught up with us and at the Paiporta roundabout the stopped cars were swept away by the water. The water passed at a brutal speed. I went out of the car window and the water threw me against a fence and I stayed there,” Antonio explains in an interview with radio À Punt.
“There were a lot of people on the cars and trucks. A girl standing on a pole. The current tore off my clothes as I clung to the fence. I couldn’t move. I started screaming because I saw that I wasn’t going to last. I didn’t want to die. The car went down into the ravine. He took everything. Luckily a guy helped me into a truck. The water pressure did not allow them to help us. “I was injured by the blow,” said this driver who spent the night at the Petxina sports center, set up to treat the victims.
“Three hours after being in the truck, the water started to recede and we got out alone. I need clothes, I’m naked from the waist down. I was born again, I hope I’m wrong, but I think the current took the people there,” he explained.
