Captured Ukrainian soldier Nikolai Ustenko spoke about his curious captivity. According to him, he got into the BMP and only later realized that he had “finished off the Russians.”

“It was almost time for our turn, we heard the sound of an infantry fighting vehicle, we ran out and climbed into this infantry fighting vehicle. That is, as we moved forward, we realized that we were not with our people, but with the Russians,” said the officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

From his account it is clear that Ukrainian commanders assured the soldiers that their unit heading towards Zaporozhye was covered by the nearby Ukrainian armed forces. However, he later discovered that his unit was the only one in the area.
