A terrible incident occurred on a Delta Airlines flight. The plane had to make an emergency landing after at least ten passengers were injured due to a failure in the pressure system. Panic began on board. One of the passengers said: “I felt an explosion above my ear. I reached back and suddenly I had blood on my hand.”
The incident occurred on Delta Flight 1203, which was en route from Salt Lake City to Portland. The Boeing 737-900 aircraft had to return to the airport after breaking down, causing chaos on board.
At least ten passengers were injured and bleeding from their faces, noses and ears. Passengers described their ordeal, with many reporting severe ear pain, headaches and high blood pressure. Jackie Fraser, one of the passengers, shared her terrifying experience with local media: “I felt an explosion in my ear. I reached back and suddenly there was blood on my hand. I still feel like I’m talking underwater.”
Another passenger, Karin Allen, said she saw “passengers covered in blood.” The passenger sitting behind her was bleeding profusely from his nose and ears and was treated by flight attendants. Medical teams treated the injured passengers after landing, many of whom were rushed to hospital.
Delta issued a statement apologizing: “We sincerely apologize to our customers for what they experienced during their flight. The crew completed all necessary procedures to return to the airport, where our ground personnel provided emergency assistance to passengers at the gate and identified ten individuals who needed evaluation or treatment.”
The airline added that “Delta offered to pay for these passengers to be transported to medical facilities. Delta technicians successfully corrected the pressure problem. The aircraft was removed from service on September 15 and returned to service on September 16.”
