José Luis Martínez-Almeida is in the spotlight again, this time for a comment he made about his personal life. Madrid’s mayor received widespread criticism when he said he considered picking up the clothesline It’s a “romantic gesture”.
Almeida went to “El Hormiguero” to talk about his management of the capital and to analyze current political events marked by DANA, taking the opportunity to defend Carlos Mazón. An interview in which he also gave time to learn more about the person behind the politician.
Almeida spoke to Pablo Motos, revealing some details about his relationship with Teresa Urquijo, with whom I got married last April.
Speaking about the details he had with her, the mayor revealed that one of the last “romantic gestures” he had with his wife removed the clothesline. “At home we have a clothesline that we put in the middle of the kitchen. Teresa doesn’t like it too much, neither do I. Anyway, the other day I said that I ‘Was going to take it off and she’ll be surprised when she gets home, we don’t have any clothes hanging up.’
A comment which led Trancas and Barrancas to ironize about the “feat” that the mayor of Madrid had achieved, and which he defended himself by arguing that “there are those who send flowers, those who give a book , and who does things his partner would never expect him to do.
It’s so strange that he removes the clothesline that his wife, when she came home and saw what he had done, the first thing she did was ask him if “he felt guilty about something”.
This anecdote was heavily criticized by the opposition. “Here is Almeida, arriving in 1950: removing the clothesline from the kitchen is a ‘romantic’ detail because ‘she would never expect you to do it’. I imagine in her head it sounded spectacular”, wrote Rita Maestre, spokesperson. for Más Madrid at Madrid City Hall, in its ‘X’ profile.
The mayor may have had fun with the program, but it is clear that his comment was not funny at all.
