“I say comrade, because it annoys you”

The commission of inquiry of the Congress of Deputies known as “Operation Catalonia” in which are discussed, among other issues, the actions of the patriotic police, as well as the illegal spying on political leaders. Among those who appeared this Tuesday was the former deputy operational director of the National Police, Eugenio Pino. There, he had a clash with the ERC spokesperson, Gabriel Rufian. All this for a “communist” concept.

“Are you patriotic?”. This is the question with which Rufián began his questioning of Pino, who answered with crossed arms that he had already answered this question. The Republican, on the other hand, insisted and asked the same question again. Now, yes, Pino said “yes, yes, yes.” When asked if he considered himself a “patriotic policeman”, Pino replied that “as a policeman and as a Spaniard” he was “patriotic”.

Rufián therefore asked him for a definition of the patriotic police. “Well, a person who loves his country,” said the former DAO, who, when questioned by Rufián, reaffirmed that “without a doubt” he would do everything for Spain. “Even persecuting innocent people, those who are proven in court not to have…?” the Republican congressman began with his next question, when laughter interrupted him.

“Your comrades laugh because they have the same toxic vision of patriotism as yours”Rufián said, completing the question: “But is patriotism persecuting innocent people proven in court and protecting corrupt people like the Emeritus King of Spain?”

Given this and in an ironic tone, Pino made it ugly to have “a series of expressions which indicate a strange training in his youth. This comrade…”. And in the same tone, the Republican replied: “You could have done a lot more work. You mean communist, right? And communists must be persecuted.”

The exDAO continued its argument, ensuring that the notion of “comrade” comes from “some anthem and some achievement” without specifying what it was referring to. Given this, a proud Ruffian responded in his own way. “I am very clear that 40 years ago you would take care of me in a very determined way. I am very clear about that, as are your comrades. And I say comrade because, and I end with this, it bores you,” declared the Catalan politician.
