Incarnationthe woman who, on October 30, found herself trapped in her vehicle during the DANA in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), visited this Tuesday the agents of the National Police it saved his life. Happy and excited, Encarnación wrote a letter from gratitude to the officers, who in turn presented him with a bouquet of flowers and a framed unit crest. “I know I can never thank you enough. for everything they did,” he told them.
This Wednesday they fell in Jerez 114.8 liters of water per square meter in 24 hours, the wettest day the city has seen since records began. It was 1:45 p.m. when Encarnación was preparing to cross the Olimpiada Avenue underpass, which was completely flooded. The car was practically floating, water covering some of the windows. The woman lived moments of real anguish. Fortunately, two National Police officers came to the rescue before the situation became critical.
Incarnation, city resident and nurse from the University Hospital of Jerez, participated in “an exciting reunion” with the police officers who took him out of the car. The woman was able to personally thank them for their actions and gave them a letter which one of the officers read, which reads:
I was stuck in my car under a flooded bridge. When I saw that the door could not be opened and that my legs were beginning to submerge in the water which was rising faster and faster, I felt indescribable terror. A feeling of loneliness and helplessness came over me, stuck in a place from which there was no escape. Anxiety overwhelmed me at the idea that I was about to die, without anyone knowing. When the National Police agents finally arrived, making enormous efforts to get me out of there, I felt something that I had not felt until that moment: I felt accompanied. These men did not hesitate to risk their lives to save me. They made a superhuman effort to get me out of this situation. Without thinking twice, they ran towards me without worrying about the danger to their own safety. At that moment, I felt completely safe, listened to and supported. I know I can never thank you enough for everything you have done. Your dedication, courage and commitment are invaluable. I know that every day they risk their lives to protect citizens and maintain order, doing work that cannot be fully measured or valued. Thank you again for your dedication and daily commitment.
The commissioner, Francisco José García Carrasco, was present at the reception, as well as inspector Eva Romera, head of the Citizen Security Brigade.
