The State Attorney General, Álvaro Garcia Ortizassured this Wednesday that neither he nor his entourage had disclosed emails from the companion of the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, while insisting on the fact that the press release published by the prosecution aimed to deny a “hoax” which had emerged previously in the media. García Ortiz indicated that “I will make this statement again.”
He Supreme Court decided open an investigation against the attorney general of the stateÁlvaro García Ortiz, after the accusation of revealing secrets presented by Alberto González Amador, associate of the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayuso. The complaint concerns the broadcast of an informative note on in which the Madrid Public Prosecutor’s Office shared details of the email exchange between González Amador’s lawyer and prosecutor Julián Salto as part of an investigation led by alleged tax fraud involving the complainant. García Ortiz took responsibility for the publication of this note. It’s a unprecedented research in historysince it is the first time that the head of the public prosecutor’s office has been indicted.
Álvaro García Ortiz reiterated this Wednesday that “the sole purpose of this press release was to deny a hoax. It makes no sense to issue a press release and, at the same time, leak emails. It makes no sense,” he reiterated in an interview with Night in 24 hours, of TVE.
García Ortiz indicated that “he would make this statement again”, while recognizing that “the repercussion was undesirable depending on what he was looking for in doing so”. “So, I believe that I would not do it again in the same way, but if I had been in my situation, I would surely have repeated it because I believe that the press release was necessary. There was information that was not true and there was information that implicated the prosecution,” he said.
When asked if he had leaked the prosecutor’s emails, García Ortiz categorically denied it. “Neither I nor those around me filter any emails, that’s obvious. “This is one reason why the state attorney general should not resign,” he concluded. Ep..
Subsequently, the attorney general explained that he did not know of the existence of these emails until there was “alarm” because they were cited by a media outlet. “But during this transit – from the moment he requests the emails until they arrive – naturally in an institution like the Prosecutor’s Office there were many people who were able to know the content of these emails ” he said.
Thus, he spoke in favor of an investigation into all leaks which, in his opinion, “are undesirable” and “a cancer which prevents justice from developing normally”. “But obviously, not everyone is the subject of an investigation,” he lamented.
