Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova found herself in an awkward situation during a briefing when she received a call with instructions not to comment on the intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) attack on the Dnieper River.
During the briefing, Zakharova responded to a call in which an anonymous “senior” official reminded that it is prohibited to discuss this topic. “Masha, the ballistic missile attacks, which were forbidden to talk about, are still valid,” he said.
Zakharova responded: “Yes, good. Thank you,” after which he continued his speech without commenting on the ban.
Information about the launch of ICBMs in Ukraine appeared earlier, on November 21. The Ukrainian Air Force said the missile was launched from Russia’s Astrakhan region. If these data are confirmed, it will be the first time that an intercontinental ballistic missile will be used against Ukraine.
At the same time, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov also declined to comment on this issue. When asked by reporters about Russia’s possible involvement in the missile launch, Peski said: “This question is for our military,” CNN quotes.
The episode with Zakharova has already become a source of discussion, demonstrating how the Russian authorities seek to control information about incidents of this type.
