Strong reproaches from the opposition Carlos Mazon in Les Corts, almost a month after the devastating DANAwhich hit the Valencian Community. There, the socialists disfigured this Thursday the president of the Generalitat who eliminated the salary cap for senior positions of his government, as well as the award of hand-picked emergency contractsand once again focused attention on its negligent handling of a storm that left more than 220 people dead. “If he had been as quick to send this alert as to increase their salaries “I can assure you that we would not talk about so many dead people,” the PSPV mediator, José Muñoz, criticized him, referring to the late mass notice that the Generalitat sent on the day of the tragedy.
A criticism that comes after the first plenary session after the renovation of the Consell undertaken by Mazón approved, as part of an aid program, the removal of this salary limitwhich until now represented 15% of the president’s salary. Mazón himself defended that “neither the salaries of the Consell nor those of any high official are increased”, but rather that “only a civil servant who comes to serve at a time like this is allowed not to lose his rights paid,” in reference to the new vice president for recovery, Lt. Gen. Francisco Jose Gan Pampols.
During Thursday’s plenary session, in which Mazón was questioned about his management of DANA, Muñoz asserted that the president “continues not to assume any type of responsibility” and “is being slow to make decisions“. “It is not reasonable that it was necessary 11 days to reform the Consell. We have been without an emergency minister for 11 days in the worst emergency experienced by the Valencian Community. They carried out a clandestine takeover, in private,” he recriminated, during an intervention in which he also accused him of spreading “hoaxes in a self-serving manner” about central government aid. .
“He is slow in making certain decisions and how quickly he takes others,” stressed the socialist spokesperson, adding that “The first measure of his Consell” was “to increase his salary”. “If he had been so quick to send out the alert to warn citizens that DANA was approaching, If I had been so quick to send this alert as was the case to increase their salaries, I can assure you that we will not talk about so many dead people,” he stressed.
In this sense, he added that Mazón “is being also very quick to award contracts to companies which irregularly financed the People’s Party”, in reference to an emergency contract of 3.9 million euros awarded to convicted businessman in the Gürtel affair. “He is a problem for his party,” he also told him, affirming that “his own leader is humiliating him in front of all of Spain” after the intervention the day before Alberto Nuñez Feijóo at the Congress of Deputies. “End this agony,” he urged: “Leave now, Mr. Mazón.”
Mazón defends himself by charging Sánchez
The “popular” leader, who last week completed a renovation of the Consell announced in dribs and drabs, in which, in addition to creating the aforementioned vice-presidency, he strengthened Susana Camarero as a spokesperson and dismissed the ministers of the Interior and Industrywithout resigning himself, replied that “at no time has there ever been an emergency minister” and accused the socialists of transforming “a tragedy into a battlefield” politics where everything is calculation.
Mazón took the opportunity to criticize the aid deployed by the Government from Spain for those affected, mixing direct aid with the loan lines that have been activated, and tried to cover up the DANA problem accuse the Central Executive and highlight the ‘Koldo Affair’. “He doesn’t want us to talk about bribes, quotas, contracts, large sums of money allegedly delivered to members of Pedro Sánchez’s government,” he slipped, also referring to the investigation against Begoña Gómez, to the commissioner. Victor de AldamaAt Sanchez’s brother or the resignation of the current leader of the Madrid PSOE, Juan Lobatoand the accusation of former minister José Luis Ábalos.
He also criticized the Valencian socialists for having raised a motion of censure in Requena “half flooded” and in Chiva “in full reconstruction” and attacked the President of the Government, who appeared the day before before the Lower House, ensuring that he had done so “a month late, dragging his feet”. “Not like me”he emphasized, trying to justify before Sánchez’s appearance that which he himself had proposed to the Valencian Parliament, where took no responsibilityclaiming that “the system” has failed. “He did not recognize a single mistake, he did not ask for forgiveness, he did not do anything self-critical, which is what I did,” he said despite everything.
