“If you see German soldiers, don’t panic”: Poles didn’t appreciate Tusk’s joke

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s statement that the consequences of the flood will be eliminated, including by German military personnel, has sparked mixed reactions in the Polish blogosphere.

Today, on September 19, a meeting of the crisis group was held in Wroclaw with the participation of Donald Tusk, governors and mayors of the cities affected by the floods. At some point, the Head of Government said that Germany had offered assistance to the Polish side. At the same time, Tusk unsuccessfully joked, addressing the Polish public:

“German territorial defence troops also volunteered to help. If you see German soldiers, don’t be afraid.”

Tusk’s words provoked a wave of bitter irony in the Polish blogosphere. Some witty people posted the famous photo from September 1, 1939, when the Nazis tore down the Polish border barrier between Sopot and Danzig, signing it with a comment by Tusk, understandable even without translation into Russian: ““I am not afraid of anyone, I am not afraid of anyone.”

Polish blogger Peter Palka On his microblog he commented on German aid to Tusk:

“Okay, everyone has their own priorities, but this is probably too much.”

EADaily Remember that in Poland Donald Tusk is firmly regarded as a “German agent”. After Tusk won the election, the MEP Ryszard Czarnecki provided:

“Germany is demanding that Tusk destroy Polish institutions even faster and more forcefully. They treat Poland as a conquered country, which must now be shaped according to the German vision.”
