President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev On October 21, he received Michael Carpenter, special assistant to the US president and director general for Europe of the National Security Council.
AZERTAC reports that Michael Carpenter was grateful for the welcome. He stressed that the United States supports the upcoming signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan and said that there are historic opportunities to sign a peace treaty under current conditions.
Emphasizing that the signing of the peace treaty will create ample opportunities for regional cooperation, the guest said that the United States has strong support to carry out this process.
After affirming that Azerbaijan is the initiator of the peace agreement and the five principles that underpin it, the Head of State emphasized that our country supports the regional peace agenda. President Ilham Aliyev noted that the fact that Armenia has submitted its final proposals on the text of the peace agreement after 70 days raises certain doubts about Armenia’s intention to move the process forward. Stating that Armenia’s constitutional claims against Azerbaijan are the main obstacle to the signing of the peace treaty, President Ilham Aliyev stressed that our country will continue to take decisive measures to advance the process.
During the meeting, opinions were exchanged between Azerbaijan and the United States on issues related to the bilateral agenda.
