Illa reiterates to the ERC his commitment that the Catalan Treasury will collect all personal income taxes in two years

Salvador Illa’s first parliamentary oversight session allowed the president to reiterate before the ERC that he would respect the economic agreement concluded in exchange for his inauguration. On this occasion, the head of government also reaffirmed a specific commitment, following the request of the Republicans, which is to multiply by four the resources of the Tax Administration of Catalonia, so that it is able to collect all the personal income tax in the year 2026, as provided for in the pact signed by the two parties.

“I reiterate my personal commitment to respect and respect in every detail the agreements signed with your group, and especially what concerns singular financing”, assured Illa in the speech of Josep María Jové, spokesperson for ERC, who told him that he would make “concrete progress” and not hide behind technical difficulties.

There will be progress “soon,” the president reassured him. “It’s an ambitious challenge, even if I have full confidence. The work is already underway, managers have been appointed. In round numbers, [la Agència] We must multiply it by four,” declared the head of government, who also called on all parties to “collaborate.” “Let us pay more attention to what can be good for all citizens and less to those who have accepted,” he emphasized, referring directly to Junts.

Jové joined this same call, which assured that a “solid” political majority is necessary to defend the financing that they promote, which is why he described as “unpatriotic” and “manichaeism” the threat of Junts to block the proposal. However, in the last policy debate, it was the PSC that chose to abandon Junts’ proposal on the economic agreement, even though it contained no elements of friction with the ERC proposal.

Precisely, the first opposition group criticized the PSC for its coincidences in the general policy debate with PP and Vox. According to Junts spokesperson Albert Batet, the socialists sided with these right-wing groups in 41 resolutions. “Do you think that this is how your investiture agreements are viable and that they serve to guarantee respect for Catalonia,” he asked.

Faced with this question, Illa chose to respond with the setback experienced this Tuesday by the president of Junts, Laura Borràs, when she left the door open to a motion of censure from the PP and was then forced to rectify it . “It’s a bit reckless of you to talk about these few resolutions today, after what we heard yesterday from some of your leaders,” Illa rejected.

The president again contacted Junts to collaborate on governance, always recalling that his priority partners are ERC and Comuns. “I know where I am, I would like you to also know where you are and that, from your relevant position in this forum, you help the country move forward,” he recommended.
