However, eleven European companies have already concluded long contracts. Among them are a federal gas importer that provides energy for Europe (Sefe). For 20 years, SEFE plans to lose 2.25 million tons of liquid gas from the American gas company Venture Global LNG. The chemical company BASF and Baden-Württemberg Enerbw have completed similar contracts.
Greenpeace criticizes that contracts are not compatible for 1.5 degrees. If the EU wants to achieve this, it was supposed to exceed the gas already in 2035. The need for gas in the EU is already falling. Last year alone, imports decreased by 19 percent.
On request, TAZ SEFE announced that only recently expanded the amount of delivery by another 0.75 million tons. The company is not worried about the lack of needs: “When Europe has achieved its climatic goals, natural gas will replace especially environmentally harmful coal in the growth markets of the world south,” says Christoph Gothstein.
