Baku TV prepared a report on the fifth day of COP29 within the framework of the “COP-BAKU” project.
It was reported that on November 15, important topics such as accelerating the transition to “green energy”, increasing the attention of law enforcement agencies to nature protection and carbon management were on the agenda. COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev, speaking at the high-level session “Mobilization of law enforcement agencies in the fight against climate change”, highlighted the importance of strengthening activities in this field.
“Crimes that affect the environment: illegal logging, flora smuggling, marine pollution, exploitation of mineral and fishing resources pose a serious threat to our biodiversity and exacerbate the effects of climate change.
These activities slow down sustainable development, alter the functioning of communities and increase the degradation of ecosystems.
It is clear that without strengthening the activities of law enforcement agencies, our initiatives to protect natural resources and the environment will be short-term,” said Mukhtar Babayev. Energy obligations were announced at the high-level round table of COP29.
Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov, who participated in the discussions, announced the important points that Azerbaijan has implemented and plans to implement in connection with the transition to “green energy”. “We have laid the foundation for the first 240-megawatt industrial-scale solar power plant in eastern Zangezur, which is a “green energy” zone. SOCAR is also involved in the project. This plant represents a large-scale foreign direct investment. scale investment in that area,” highlighted the minister.
