Composer and documentary filmmaker, Aline Pénitot has more than one trick hidden in her mainsail bag. A sailor herself, she is the author of the notable series that are Forget Moby Dick (2019) and The oceanic feeling (2022) for France Culture. And it was upon realizing the latter that she became closer to Isabelle Joschke, one of the six women who started the Vendée Globe, on November 8, 2020.

After a first season of alone in the seadocumentary series about the pattern of theImoca-MACSFAline Pénitot slipped a recorder into the navigator’s lifesaving bag. The result: whenever she had a little time, sometimes curled up in the heart of her bunk, Isabelle Joschke wrote a kind of audio diary of her career. And it was wonderful to live this well-transmitted experience up close.

As he prepares to leave, On Sunday, November 10, and together with 39 other skippers, on her second solo and non-stop round the world trip, Isabelle Joschke once again offers us the opportunity to get on board her boat thanks to Aline Pénitot’s onboard microphone. . But for this season, called “Repartir”, the latter chose the guitar of Serge Teyssot-Gay to create a musical presentation tailored to him.

Powerful, but not great

Let’s say from the outset that it is, at least, in line with the excess of an adventure like the Vendée Globe. Furthermore, in the preamble to the first episode, Isabelle Joschke recalled that, after the Vendée Globe 2020, she did not want to leave at all. “And there you go again?” »jokes Aline Pénitot. “And there I go again!” »the captain responds to the documentary filmmaker who, with incredible delicacy and a certain determination, knows very well how to ask, take a step back or, on the contrary, push the cursor.

Episode 1, the listener is on the ship, a ship that moves forward, that even sinks. “Silence is one of the things we miss most”insists Isabelle Joschke in the following episode. Quickly returning to the beginning of his journey, he talks about desire, commitment, abandonment and risk (episode 3).

But it is in episode 4 that we realize the extent of Aline Pénitot’s talent. In spring, she had the idea of ​​locking herself with Serge Teyssot-Gay in the musician’s studio, equipped with her recording equipment and a globe to imagine some strategic points of this world tour: Cap de Bonne-Espérance, Cape Leeuwin, Cape Ovens, etc. “What came outtells us, It was so powerful that he was even afraid to let Isabelle hear it. »
