In January 2024, the Nizami District Police Department and Prosecutor’s Office received information about a murder in one of the commercial kiosks near the “Koroglu” metro station.
Oku.Az The police officers who arrived at the scene reportedly discovered the body of a man between 30 and 35 years old inside the kiosk.
He was stabbed in the throat
Since the identity of the body was unknown to the police, preliminary questioning began with the vendor of the kiosk where the incident took place. The only witness to the murder, Flora Aliyeva (first and last name optional), said in her statement to the investigation that everything happened suddenly and in a short time:
“Alvin, a taxi driver who always shopped at the kiosk, came back here to buy something. He had just entered when a dark-skinned, middle-aged man came in. After a few minutes, he suddenly had no idea what had happened. I didn’t know either. That person started hitting Elvin with a knife. After a few blows, Elvin fell to the ground and the perpetrator ran away.
According to the report of the Association of Forensic Medical Examination and Pathological Anatomy, the deceased died due to severe blood loss caused by a cut to the left carotid artery and larynx, a penetrating wound to the left chest. It has been revealed that he is Elvin Rustamov (name and surname conditional), a resident of the village of Bina.
When operational and investigative measures related to the incident were initiated, the police learned that the person who voluntarily surrendered to the police authorities admitted having committed the said incident and presented to the police the hunting knife that he used in the crime.
A surprise call from school to the family
Karim Hasanov (name and surname are conditional), who admitted to the murder, stressed in his statement to the investigation that he committed the incident out of jealousy. He stated that he did not know Elvin Rustamov, whom he killed, and that he had no personal enmity with him. It happened a few months before the incident. While Karim was at work, his wife called him and told him about their 11th grade daughter Kubra (name is provisional). His wife said that their daughters did not attend sports classes. That is why Karim went to the secondary school where his daughter studied and found out that Kubra was not really there. Relatives did not know what to do because the phone did not ring.
Karim said in his testimony: “My daughter was studying in the 11th grade. She was religious and used to walk around with her head covered and pray. Therefore, we did not imagine her going anywhere outside school. One of the teachers at the school said she got into a taxi and left.”
The events began after that. Due to the lack of an open relationship between the head of the family and his daughter, it was up to the mother to find out where Kubra went by taxi. Karim says in his testimony: “Everything became clear when my daughter arrived home. From her mother’s conversation with her it was clear that she had a relationship with Elvin, the taxi driver she used to travel with to school. Elvin had picked her up from school several times before.”
The love of a young woman for a person who has been married and divorced several times.
Karim Hasanov repeatedly claimed that he wanted to find Elvin’s mobile phone and meet him to clarify the matter, but the other party avoided this meeting with various excuses. In the city, he finds out that Elvin is known for flirting with countless girls and eventually cheating on them. There are even rumors that he was married and divorced three times. Realizing that the matter is more serious, Karim decides to talk to his daughter himself and find out what happened. Therefore, 11th grader Kubra comes clean and tells her father things as they are.
Kubra’s statement to the investigation also revealed that she first met Elvin when she was using his car as a taxi service. Kubra said in her testimony: “My first contact with Elvin happened when I was going to the metro station in a taxi driven by him. Although he took one manat from my brother who was with me, which was a travel allowance, he did not take the travel allowance from me, saying that I was wearing a hijab and that he was religious too. After that, this happened several times while I was going to training. He even bought me tea while I was waiting in the car for him. The money for him increased and we started dating later on.
“He ruined my little daughter’s life”
When Karim had an open conversation with his daughter Kubra, he realized that Elvin had taken her out of school not for the usual wandering, but because he had invaded his little daughter’s life. Kubra admitted to her father that she met and had sex with Elvin once in an unknown house in the Guneshli settlement and twice in unknown houses in the area called “Sovkhoz” in the Bina settlement. After hearing this from his daughter, Ahmed decided to kill Elvin. Therefore, he bought a hunting knife in the “Sadarak” shopping center and met with Elvin in the Bina settlement, waiting for the moment when he could implement his plan.
Karim said in his statement: “He destroyed my little daughter’s life. I had no other choice. I saw him in the Bina settlement taking a client and going in the direction of “Koroglu”. I went in.”
The criminal case was investigated in the Baku Court of Serious Crimes. All important evidence, witness statements and truthful statements of the accused were legally assessed and a decision was made to sentence Karim Hasanov to 9 years in prison.
