An eviction company has managed to recover 15 of the 16 floors of a building that has been illegally occupied for almost two decades in the town of Esquivias in Toledo, as Antonio Plana, from APD Security Iberia, explained to ABC. “Thanks to mediation and pressure, we have achieved it,” he summarizes.
Only one floor was empty and among the people living in the property was a man and his family who assured the company that they had a legal tenancy agreement. However, “Later we learned that he was living illegally,” Plana remembers.
With experience since 2017, he assures that these squatters, with children in some cases, have other accommodation: “They are prepared and what they want is to make money.” This week, the seven-day period given by the company for them to return and collect their belongings expires. Some have been financially compensated for their moving and transportation costs, according to Plana, “because they treated us well and they deserved it”.
When they deliver the house and sign the agreement, the company changes the lock, installs an alarm and gives them a week to remove their belongings.
Daniel is one of the legitimate owners who got his apartment back after several years of litigation. As he was tired of waiting, he turned to this company to which he paid 4,000 euros. The price varies between 3,000 and 6,000 euros, depending on the difficulties and the number of properties owned by the same owner, to which a small discount is given. “When we started in 2017, we had very few homes vacated, but the last few years have been nothing more”said Plana, who also recovered another squatted house in Esquivias by a drug trafficker during these three days.
