Armed robbers stole millions of jewels from famous Parisian jeweler Joseph Chomet. The country’s treasures are considered national treasures and are housed in the French museum of Para-le-Monial. The ERR.EE publication reports this.
The thieves rode motorcycles in front of the museum on Thursday, after which three of them entered the house and one stood outside watching. The mayor provided details. Jean-Marc Nesme.
Several shots were fired in the house, after which the criminals went to the museum’s most important exhibition: a three-meter work of precious metals, precious stones and ivory, made in 1904 and depicting the life of Christ.
The work is called “Via Vitae.” It has no price, since it is a national treasure, but in documents it is valued at 7 million euros. The attackers, using special tools, cut the armored glass that protected the work of art and took gold figurines and emerald jewelry.
“This is a great loss for Para-le-Monial and the national heritage,” Nesme said, adding that museum staff and about 20 visitors were traumatized by the incident.
