The lion, who reportedly, called Zeus, ran away from his cage in the entertainment park of animal lions in the Manavat, about 40 miles (65 km) in the east of Antalya, early in the morning, said the governor.
According to the newspaper Birgün, Leo attacked an agricultural worker named Suleiman Cyrus, who was asleep on a Fistashkoye field with his wife. Cyrus fought with Leo before Lion fled. He was wounded, but was not difficult and was taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.
“We were covered with a blanket to protect ourselves from mosquitoes, and when the call to prayer, I tried to get up, but could not,” he told the newspaper. “Suddenly, I felt that something concerns my left leg, and when I finally managed to wake up, I saw that it was something big, I thought it was a dog.”
In a video uploaded on the Internet, he described the moments when the fight against Leo. “We asked for help, but there was nobody around. The Governor of Antalya said that Leo was traced and shot. “It is impossible to catch a lion who escaped alive, because he was endured by people and the environment, so he was shot,” he said.
He indicated that the investigation was carried out as a result of the incident. Birgun said that there were about 30 large cats in Leo Leo.
