Classes in kindergartens and schools in the Ust-Kamchatka district of Kamchatka have been canceled due to the fall of ash from the Shiveluch volcano, according to the telegram channel of the administration of the Ust-Kamchatsky district.
“Due to the fall of volcanic ash, the village’s “Snezhinka” and “Romashka” kindergartens have interrupted their operations. Ust-Kamchatsk, as well as secondary school number 2, are closed. Parents are asked to take their children home. Classes have been canceled in other educational institutions: a sports school and a children’s art school.” – says the message.
In the villages of Klyuchi and Kozyrevsk educational institutions operate normally. In Ust-Kamchatsk, the open volleyball tournament between men’s and women’s teams for the Cup of the head of the Ust-Kamchatka municipal district, scheduled for tomorrow, November 9, was canceled.
The Shiveluch volcano dramatically intensified its eruption on the afternoon of November 7. To date it has already produced three ash emissions at a height of between 5 and 11 kilometers above sea level. A small amount of ash fell overnight in the village of Ust-Kamchatsk, and now the column is spreading to the east and has not yet affected populated areas. Kamchatka geophysicists have already called Shiveluch’s behavior atypical for him, since previously seismic stations began to record preparations for explosive emissions long before the event itself. This time, the level of seismicity remained in the background until the most powerful ash emission.
Shiveluch volcano is the northernmost active volcano on the peninsula. Since 2005 it has been erupting with brief periods of calm, RIA Novosti recalls.
