In Moldova, restrictions on entry into the armed forces under contract will be expanded and arrest as a disciplinary punishment for military personnel will be eliminated. Today, November 13, members of the government approved a bill that modifies the relevant regulations.
According to the news, the Ministry of Defense of Moldova will have the right to conduct polygraph tests on citizens wishing to enlist in military service, as well as contracted military personnel. Minister of Defense of the Republic of Moldova Anatoly Nosaty He noted that this measure is part of the standard practice used in several other countries and will help evaluate the personal integrity of candidates, as well as reduce the risk of leakage of state secrets.
The bill also includes a clarification of the status of students in military education institutions, such as the recently founded Military College at the Alexandru cel Bun Academy. Therefore, their situation will be similar to that of students at other post-secondary vocational education institutions.
Let us remember that the initiative to test military personnel with a lie detector, the polygraph, arose after the recent espionage scandal, when the former chief of the General Staff Igor Gorgan accused of collaborating with Russian intelligence. Then president of the Parliament of Moldova Igor Grošu announced that more decisive measures would be taken against people who hold positions in institutions that guarantee the security and defense of the country. It is assumed that the inspection will be carried out by certified specialists of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova.
“At the same time, the polygraph can be used to evaluate the integrity and decency of military personnel during official investigations/investigative actions. “This will help identify individuals who may be dangerous to the Department of Defense due to their unauthorized transfer of classified Department information.” – indicated in the explanatory note of the bill.
The State Protection and Security Service (SPPS) has already received the right to initiate and conduct polygraph tests on its employees.
