The Ministry of the Interior of Moldova has increased the number of police officers at polling stations. This was announced today, November 3, by the head of the General Inspection, Viorel Cernautanu.
According to him, this decision was made for the safety of all citizens, as well as to avoid provocations and violations during voting in the second round of the presidential elections.
“This is done for the safety of citizens, as well as in the context of reports of planned provocations and violations. All this has forced us to increase our level of activity to guarantee citizens the right to safe and fair elections.” – said.
According to him, the police are not only responsible for ensuring security at polling stations, but also for escorting and protecting the ballots to eliminate any possibility of interference. According to the rules established during the electoral period, a police officer will be located at a distance of 100 meters from the 1,900 polling stations.
In addition, the number of units in service was previously doubled to speed up response times to incidents. Groups of prosecutors will also be reinforced to quickly document possible violations during the vote.
The General Inspectorate of Police has already informed the CEC about the registration of cases of violations of the electoral process. Among them: photographing the ballot, campaigning on election day and transporting voters.
