A passenger was run over on Thursday, November 14, by an RER in Nanterre, after losing his balance and falling onto the platform during an intervention by RATP security agents, according to the Paris transport authority. The man was seriously injured and taken to hospital, but his life is not in danger, several sources confirmed to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. at the Nanterre-Université station, on RER line A, according to a RATP statement. “During an intervention by a RATP security team, a person lost his balance and was hit by a train arriving at the platform, in circumstances yet to be determined”write the address there.
As a result of this event, an investigation into attempted murder was opened and entrusted to the Ile-de-France network brigade, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office told AFP, specifying that a police arrest was being carried out within the framework of this procedure.
The president and general director of the RATP, Jean Castex, called for an internal investigation to be opened immediately “in collaboration and transparency with the representative associations of users that are part of the RATP board of directors”.
Traffic was interrupted for part of the afternoon between the La Défense and Nanterre-Ville stations. The RATP victim assistance unit was activated.
