In Parcoursup, fewer proposals were made to candidates in 2024

More candidates on the starting line, but a little fewer proposals: this is one of the main lessons of the 2024 session of Parcoursup, the higher education guidance platform, according to a ministerial report published on October 4.

In total, 86.7% of the 945,500 candidates received at least one offer of admission to a course, compared to 87.8% a year earlier, indicates the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. 650,000 people have accepted an offer of admission, or 79.2% of those who had received an offer of admission (79% in 2023).

According to the calculations of WorldThis corresponds to 68.8% of those registered on the platform, all categories together (compared to 69.5% in 2023), who are effectively integrating one of the training courses they wanted thanks to Parcoursup. Specifically, in the case of high school student candidates, this rate reaches 77.8%: out of a total of 645,000, 501,651 have accepted an offer of admission. This rate was 78.2% in 2023. The platform registered 28,500 more applications in 2024, with the increase being especially notable in the category of resuming studies (+7.2%) and students in reorientation (+3.7%) .

“Wishes of caution”

Among high school students, 96.8% of general high school graduates (−0.2 points compared to 2023) received an offer of at least one of the 24,000 courses present on the platform. The same occurs with 82.4% of professional high school graduates (- 2 points) and 89.5% of technological high school graduates (- 0.9 points).

It should be noted that among reorientation students, only 53% of the 169,000 candidates were enrolled in a new course at the beginning of the school year, while 84.2% had received an offer, a lower proportion than in 2023 but higher to that of 2022. “This acceptance rate is lower than that of high school students because many students express “cautionary wishes” on Parcoursup while they wait for the results of the first year of the course in which they are already studying”specify the services of the ministry. Besides, “Almost a quarter of them indicated that they had a project other than Parcoursup when they confirmed their wishes in April 2024”they add.

The proposals came more quickly this year. “Since the first day of the admission phase, 2.4 million admission proposals were sent to candidates, that is, +18% compared to 2023 and, on the sixth day, the platform had sent 9.2 % more admission proposals than in 2023 on the same date. . Therefore, candidates waited on average less than in 2023 to obtain an offer of admission.”welcomes the ministry. Particularly among high school students, less than a week after the start of the Parcoursup, more than three quarters of them had already received at least one offer of admission.
