In Spain, more than 130 thousand people participated in protest demonstrations

Some 130,000 people took to the streets of Valencia demanding the resignation of provincial president Carlos Mazón after a catastrophic flood that killed more than 200 people. This was reported by El País and El Diario. As El Diario points out, those gathered blamed Mazón for hundreds of victims. The protesters carried signs highlighting that “the head of Valencia had a long lunch, while dozens of cities were already flooded,” the newspaper writes.

According to El País, the demonstration was peaceful with “some isolated incidents.”

El Diario noted that this was the largest demonstration in Valencia since 2003, when people protested against the war in Iraq.

One of the worst floods in 75 years, caused by heavy rain, hit southern and eastern Spain in late October. Valencia was the most affected and the effects of the flood were also felt in Andalusia and other regions.

Spanish authorities said the death toll from the flooding had reached 223.

When the king of Spain Philip VI with his wife leticia They came to support the victims, the outraged neighbors threw mud at them. They called them murderers and asked them to hand over the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to the people. Before, they threw a stick at him and he left the procession, RBC recalls.
