A St. Petersburg court has sentenced a man convicted of aiding terrorism to eight years in prison, the joint press service of the city courts announced today, September 24.
“The First Military Court of the Western District announced the verdict on Dierbeka Kuziboevafound guilty of committing a crime under Part 1. 1 of Art. 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. <> The military court imposed a sentence of imprisonment for a period of 8 years, the first 2 years to be served in prison, and the remainder of the sentence in a high-security penal colony.” – the message said.
According to the case file, in February of this year, a man, a supporter of radical Islamic movements, who experienced a sense of distorted religious unity with the leaders and participants of a banned international terrorist organization, entered into electronic correspondence, where we received information about this person’s participation in the organization’s activities in Syria, information about the organization’s members’ need for money to commit crimes.
Kuziboev decided to assist in terrorist activities and, using his personal bank account data, received 10 thousand rubles from a person participating in the operational-search event for further transfer of funds to a member of the terrorist organization.
The press service noted that the accused fully admitted his guilt.
“He explained that he had changed his beliefs, was a supporter of traditional Islam and realized that he himself had become a victim of propaganda by terrorists, whom he previously considered defenders of Islam.” – the message said.
