He the Basque Country It is home to one of the most impressive hiking routes in our country, with the highest waterfall in Spain and the second in Europe.
This is the Nervous jumpa waterfall with more than 220 meters high located between the provinces of Burgos, Alava and Vizcaya. This jewel of nature is born from the watercourse formed by the Iturrigutxi, Ajiturri and Urita streams, forming the Delica River. Once it jumps into the void and crosses the Delika Canyon, it is called the Nervión River.
How to get to Salto del Nervión?
There is different routes to reach the Nervión waterfall. You can get there from Burgos through the city of Berberana. From there, take the local road BU-556 to go up the pass towards Mount Santiago until you reach the entrance car park.
From Alava You can access this location from the port of Orduña. The reference location is Amurrio. Another alternative if you are leaving from the Basque Country is to leave from Delica. From this town you can visit the waterfall from the lower part of the park. You can also get to the start of the route from Untzaga.
Hiking routes to see the Salto del Nervión
Are several trails you can do to visit the Salto del Nervión. Depending on your preferences, you can choose one or the other. The shortest is 7 kilometers and the longest is about 11.4 kilometers in total. These are the different paths.
Nervión Falls from Mount Santiago
This route has some 7 kilometers in total. You will leave from Mount Santiago in the province of Burgos, right on the border with the Basque Country. This is a circular route in which you can combine 3 small, fully signposted routes: PU-BR 42, PU-BR 45 and PU-BR 41.
The start of the route is located next to the park house in the last authorized parking lot of this natural park. Before arriving at the viewpoint of the Nervión waterfall, you can visit the representation of an old wolf dog.
Route to the Nervión Falls from Untzaga
This is the longest route with about 11.4 kilometers in length. The trail begins in the small Alava town of Untzaga. After crossing this town, you will find a small parking lot where you can leave your car.
This route is less people than the previous one and you will be able to observe the Nervión waterfall from another angle. You will have to cross the river before reaching the viewpoint from where you can enjoy the waterfall.
Nervión Falls from Delika: discover the route
This route includes a few 8.6 kilometers in whole and in part of the city of Alava Delika. This route is done at the bottom of the valley. You will have to cross the river several times to reach the bottom of the canyon and see the waterfall. Currently, the route is being prepared with different stages to cross the stream without difficulties.
