One person has died and another was seriously injured after being attacked by a knife-wielding man in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam, ABC News reported on Sept. 19.
A man armed with two long knives is seen attacking passers-by at random. The attacker allegedly attacked one person in an underground car park and then another near a busy terrace at one end of the bridge over the Nieuwe Maas river, a police spokesman said.
The attacker was subdued by the sports instructor, who hit him with two sticks and managed to seize the knives.
“It was a man with two long knives who stabbed a young man. When I started screaming, he turned around and started approaching everyone around him.” – said the instructor.
Police arrested a suspect, who was also injured. He was hospitalized.
The identities of the victims and the suspect have not been released. The attacker’s motives remain unknown.
On August 30, it was reported that at least five people were injured when a woman was attacked with a knife on a bus in the western German city of Siegen. According to police, the bus was heading to Siegen to attend a municipal festival. At least 40 passengers were on the bus at the time of the crime. According to preliminary information from law enforcement officials, this is a terrorist attack, Izvestia recalls.
