In the Smolensk region, a man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for sabotage on a railway track

A court in the Smolensk region sentenced a local resident to 12 years in prison for a sabotage case – setting fire to a relay cabinet on a railway section. This was reported today, November 5, by the press service of the Russian Federal Security Service for the region.

“A 23-year-old young man from the Dukhovshchinsky district, involved in the fire of a relay cabinet at kilometer 337 of the Safonovo-Milokhovo railway section, was sentenced to 12 years in prison, which he will serve in a maximum security colony. “The offender will spend the first three years of the sentence imposed in prison,” – the message said.

According to the file, in October last year, an acquaintance approached the man and asked him to help him destroy a signaling and interlocking device on the railway track. The attacker agreed and acted as the driver. The criminals were detained the next day by agents of the Russian Federal Security Service in the Smolensk region.

A criminal case was initiated against the men under section 2 of Art. 281 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (sabotage).

“In July 2024, the criminal case against an accomplice of the convicted person was separated into separate proceedings and is currently under consideration in court”; – explained the department.
