“In the last three years, 200 people have been arrested, and in the last three months six more people from the southern and northern regions of the country have been added to this number.” – said a representative of the ministry Saif-ul-Islam Khyber.
Some Kabul residents interviewed by TOLOnews welcomed the witch arrests and said they cause various problems in families.
“It is necessary to catch and punish those who practice witchcraft and divination, since these practices are also prohibited in Islam,” – says Nader Rohani.
Hassan, another Kabul resident, added:
“We ask that all witches be captured and brought to justice.”
Some ulama propose raising awareness among Afghans about the dangers of visiting sorcerers during sermons in mosques.
“It is necessary to counteract this practice through sermons in mosques and in the media, informing people not to go to these servants of the shaitan who are causing harm to society.” – noted one of the mullahs of Kabul Hasibullah Hanafi.
Before the Ministry gave instructions to arrest those accused of witchcraft, such practices were carried out openly for many years in the capital and in the provinces.
