“increase” of 10ºC in these areas before the arrival of storm Isaac

The latter part of September will begin with heat and a “shorter and less intense San Miguel summer than in previous years.” explains the spokesperson for the National Meteorological Agency (Aemet) Rubén del Campo. So, after starting the weekend with general temperatures 5 to 10 degrees cooler than usual on these dates In some areas of the northern half, from today Sunday, Spain will experience a “clear increase”.

In this way, the values at the beginning of next week will become “above normal”, especially on Monday and Tuesday. At the start of the week pI would hate record more than 25º in large areas of the country, even more than 30º in southern communities such as Extremadura and Andalusia, and more than 32º in the Guadalquivir valley.

“This Sunday there will be a sudden thermal change in Spain after the polar irruption, with 7 communities totaling up to 8ºC: Cantabria, Asturias, Basque Country, Navarre, La Rioja, Castile and León and Aragon“explains Silvia Ferrer, meteorologist at Weatherized. “Diurnal values will rebound, with the increase being notable in the northern interior of the peninsula and on the Cantabrian slope. They will only decrease in the south of the Mediterranean area and in the Canary archipelago.”

“In the afternoon of Sunday, new developments will arrive on the side of the Atlantic front, which will cause an increase in cloudiness in Galicia and in the western part of the Cantabrian Sea, leaving rains more likely on the west coast of Galicia. there will be some weak ones in the north of the Canary Islands,” continues Ferrer.

After Monday’s heat, temperatures would start to drop on Tuesday, but they could still exceed 30 to 32º in the Guadalquivir valley and in parts of the southeast of the peninsula. The passage of a front through the country would then leave it rains in Galicia, in the northwest of Castilla y León and also in the Cantabrian communitiesaccording to Aemet’s predictions.

Aemet confirms that in the meantime in the Canaries a trade wind regime should bring clouds towards the north of the islands with greater relief, without excluding some drizzle here. To the south of the archipelago it will be clearer.

The mystery of Isaac

The most likely scenario at present does not bring tropical cyclone “Isaac”, formed in the Atlantic, directly towards the Iberian Peninsula. Aemet specifies that in any case it would happen as deep storm and not like hurricane after losing its tropical characteristics over the previous two days.

He further emphasizes that it is not “unusual” for a deep storm, which was originally a tropical cyclone, to reach Europe. This type of phenomenon “usually happens several autumns,” Del Campo explains. In Spain, Isaac would leave rain, especially in the north of the peninsula, but also intense winds and poor sea conditions on the northern coasts.
