As the industry calls for more inclusion in Hollywood following the strike, Indivisible Entertainment is expanding its production accessibility training program.
On Friday, the creators of QueerCrip announced their Access Instigators initiative. The initiative is currently recruiting 10 apprentices with multiple identity disabilities to complete the first cohort of an eight-month pilot program. The purpose of the program is to provide participants with the skills and experience necessary for immediate employment in professional production.
Supported by the Pop Culture Collaborative Fund, a project sponsored by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, this training program provides essential skills for accessibility in production from the development to exhibition stages. The program includes one-on-one mentoring and on-the-job training, allowing students to connect with community and industry leaders and prepare for a successful career in the media industry.
“Creatives with disabilities have long been at the forefront of integrating accessibility into the creative process,” IndieVisible said in a statement. “Given the COVID-19 pandemic and recent union strikes, the industry at large is recognizing that the need for change extends beyond people with disabilities. Production accessibility benefits all cast, crew, and creatives by creating an environment conducive to producing innovative content and maintaining safe and sustainable careers. Hiring for production accessibility roles is an important step toward a more empathetic and inclusive industry.”
Applications for the Access Instigators program are now open. Online until September 10.
