Innovation in DTT: Cooperation with the African Union, a joint approach to Afghanistan

Today the 11th Summit of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkish States (TDT) was held in Bishkek.

At its meetings, important decisions were made in the sense of regional and global cooperation and security, this time TDT has remained faithful to its tradition. At the meeting, the decision was made to develop cooperation between TDT and the African Union.

According to the agreement reached, it will serve as a solid foundation for regional cooperation. The tasks of taking appropriate measures to convene the Joint Summit between the organizations were entrusted.

This can be considered an important step towards strengthening and expanding cooperation between the Turkish world and Africa.

Such a step can be considered important in terms of TDT’s relations with the international organization. Because the African Union also carries out limited activities in a certain sense.

The African Union was created on July 9, 2002. The organization includes 55 African countries. It is also the legal successor of the Organization of African Unity. In January 2011, Azerbaijan was granted observer status in the union.

Algeria, Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Zambia, Cameroon, Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Republic of South Africa These countries are members of this union.

In addition to natural conditions, the member states of the Union have abundant wealth and a large market. They have suffered many deprivations from colonial regimes over time. The former colonialists are again trying to expand their activities on the continent and restore their influence to exploit them.

At the same time, the African Union is also trying to contribute to the suppression of a series of crises that are occurring on the continent.

It is appropriate to highlight the common religious and cultural closeness between TDT and many member countries of the organization.

Furthermore, these countries were considered for many years the main “market” for slavers (colonialists) and human traffickers. These colonizers now intend to exploit the continent again with a different face.

It must be taken into account that DTT has also been hit hard by Tsarist Russia and the former Soviet regimes, with the exception of Türkiye.

In this sense, there is a certain similarity between the member states of the TDT and the members of the African Union.

Proximity and similarity in different directions can have a positive effect on your cooperation and rapprochement.

It should also be noted that the organization will expand for the first time the geography of cooperation in the field of international relations. This will also stimulate mutual cooperation, activity and rapprochement of the three continents: Asia, Europe and Africa.

Establishing relations with countries close to the DTT area and bringing the issue to the agenda can be considered as one of the important and important events.

Afghanistan, which is close to Turkestan and Central Asia, is a neighbor of three of the organization’s member states, what happens in the country, the lives of its inhabitants and the way of living are very important for the TDT states. At that time, Afghanistan was one of the sources of threats to regional security. Therefore, the country’s cooperation with DTT will help regional and global stability and security.

The importance of establishing the Organization’s Working Group on Afghanistan was highlighted at the summit meeting. In this regard, in order to prepare a unified approach of the TDT Member States on the issue of Afghanistan to be adopted at the informal summit in Hungary, the Foreign Ministers were instructed to prepare a draft Declaration of the Council of Chiefs of State through the Working Group.

This will be the first step for the TDT member countries to demonstrate a common position in the international world and in the field of foreign policy.

The measures adopted by member states to establish relations with countries outside the organization and with international organizations add a new positive political nuance.

This also means that DTT not only addresses the problems of limited states and their citizens, but also prioritizes cooperation in the international world.

With these decisions, the Bishkek Summit added innovation to the organization’s activities.
