He Home officeterminated a contract to purchase 15 million bales to the company Guardian Defense & Homeland Security, intermediary of Israeli weapons. These were 9 millimeter NATO PB ammunition which were going to be used in Civil Guard pistols.
The contract corresponded to a call for tenders published on February 21, the award process for which ended on October 21. In this one, two of the three lots ordered were acquired from the Israeli company.
The department headed by Fernando Grande Marlaska takes this decision after the controversy that arose this Tuesday morning after the publication of the purchase.
Ministry statement
Interior clarified its position by issuing a statement emphasizing its position of not conducting military material transactions with Israel: “The Spanish government maintains its commitment not to buy or sell weapons to the Israeli state since the armed conflict broke out in the territory of Gaza.
“Although in this case it is an acquisition of ammunition, the Ministry of The Interior has initiated the administrative procedure to cancel the said purchase“, adds the note published by the ministry, which also assures that “other Israeli companies will be excluded” from other arms acquisition files.
