Iran has expressed its willingness to discuss with France a possible truce in Lebanon and the implementation of UN Resolution 1701, which prescribes the deployment exclusively of the Lebanese army in the south of the country, near the border with Israel.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf noted that Iran is open to detailed negotiations with France, which can play the role of mediator between Hezbollah and Israel. At the same time, he stressed that it makes no sense to negotiate directly with Israel, since Iran considers it only an armed instrument of the United States.
Ghalibaf, until then little known on the international stage, has attracted attention with his recent move. A former fighter pilot, he personally piloted the plane that landed in Beirut on October 12. Subsequently, he held negotiations with the actor. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and met with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, a close ally of Hezbollah. Ghalibaf also visited areas south of Beirut that suffered from Israeli attacks.
The Iranian politician said that despite difficult relations with Israel, Iran sees an opportunity for progress through negotiations with France, which has traditionally supported Lebanon.
