Iran calls on UN to stop Israeli offensive, threatens ‘full-scale war’

Iran’s representative to the United Nations, Saeed Iravani, called for a Urgent meeting of the UN Security Council on Israeli attacks in Lebanon after the elimination of Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah during a bombing south of Beirut. Likewise, he warned against “a full-scale war.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran urges the Security Council to take decisive and immediate action to end Iran’s continued aggression and avoid dragging the region into full-scale war,” he said. she declared in a press release.

These statements come hours after Israeli armed forces killed the leader of Hezbollah in a bombing south of Beirut, decapitating the leaders of the terrorist organization. Nasrallah was under the direct command of the regime of the ayatollahs of Iran and was one of the most coveted pieces for Israel’s security, especially after the 2006 war.

Thus, the Iranian regime asked the Security Council to put pressure on Israel to put an end to its “acts of aggression and atrocious crimes” in Gaza and Lebanon and to respect UN resolutions.

“Israel carried out a blatant act of terrorist aggression in residential areas of Beirut, using bunker-busting munitions supplied by the United States to assassinate Sayyid Hasan Nasrallah, leader of Hezbollah and symbol of resistance against the occupation and “Israeli aggression in southern Lebanon,” Iravani said in the letter addressed to the rotating president of the Security Council, Samuel Zbogar.

In this sense, Iravani warned that Israel’s actions “are pushing the entire region towards open catastrophe” and recalled that Iranian General Abas Nilforushan had also died in the bombings on Friday evening.

“Iran will not hesitate to exercise its inherent right under international law to take all necessary measures to defend its vital national and security interests,” he said.

Israel continues its offensive

For their part, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported this Sunday that Attacks on “terrorist targets” continue in Lebanon, in reference to Hezbollah.

“The IDF continues to attack terrorist targets of the Hezbollah terrorist organization on Lebanese territory. Air Force fighter jets, under the leadership of the Northern Command, have attacked dozens of terrorist targets in Lebanon in recent hours,” they announced on their X social network account.

In a second message on the same platform, the Israeli army defended the execution of these attacks because they are directed against “buildings that stored weapons and military structures” of the Shiite group.

Likewise, the Israeli armed forces have made it clear that they will continue to “damage and degrade the military capabilities and infrastructure” of the aforementioned terrorist group.
