Iran has rejected Ukraine’s claims that an IRGC general was involved in training the Russian military.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani has rejected the claim that an Iranian officer trained Russian armed forces on Ukrainian territory, Mehr news agency reported today, August 31.

He stressed that Iran opposes war and emphasized the need to end the conflict and peacefully resolve disputes between Russia and Ukraine.

He said that such baseless accusations are made with specific political motives and objectives, noting that the accusations contradict Iran’s principled approach to the conflict in Ukraine.

Kanaani’s comment came after Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Andrey Kostin He said a case had been opened against the IRGC general on suspicion of “complicity with Russia in the war and war crimes against Ukraine.”

Kostin said the investigation showed that between July and August 2022, Russian military officials reached an agreement with Iran to purchase Shahed-136 and Mohajer-6 attack drones, as well as related equipment.

Iran has repeatedly and categorically denied allegations of involvement in the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
