Iran has made new statements regarding a possible response to Israel’s actions.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a telephone conversation with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani, said that the country’s leaders intend to take revenge on Israel for the assassination of Hamas terrorist leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Araghchi also stressed that Iran’s response to the attack will be carefully thought out and calculated, while Iran does not seek escalation, although it does not fear it.
In response, Tajani called on the parties to show restraint and adopt a constructive approach to avoid further escalation of the conflict, which could only worsen the suffering in the region.
Earlier, Kursor reported that the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry spoke about “punishment” for Israel in a conversation with colleagues from France and Britain.
Iran’s new foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, told his French and British counterparts that Iran has the right to retaliate against Israel for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last month. The message was carried by the official IRNA news agency.
Araqchi said Israel was responsible for Haniyeh’s assassination on July 31, which he described as “an unforgivable violation of Iran’s security and sovereignty.” According to the minister, Iran considers itself entitled to punish the aggressor.
Although Israel neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in the killing, Stéphane Sejourne of France and David Lammy of Britain congratulated Araqchi on his appointment as foreign minister.
At the same time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Iran and Hezbollah at a cabinet meeting on Sunday, saying Israel is ready to defend itself against any threat from these adversaries.
He stressed Israel’s determination not only to defend itself, but also to make its enemies pay a heavy price for any attack.
